Serving the husband: Does it take precedence over Hajj?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 21906 )
Q: My mother is 75 years old and wishes to perform Hajj to the Sacred House of Allah . All financial conditions are available, and she has no minor children. However, there is an obstacle preventing her from performing the obligatory Hajj, which is my father’s illness. He is 86 years old and has been bedridden for two years due to old age. He does not complain of pain, but he is unable to do anything on his own, even relieving himself, which he does in bed. My mother, may Allah assist her, is the one who attends to his needs in all matters, naturally with our help as her children, both male and female. We, her children, have suggested that we take her place in serving our father, especially my elder sisters, so that she can perform the obligatory Hajj. In this case, is the obligation of Hajj dropped from her, or can we, her children, take her place in serving
our father so that she can perform the obligatory Hajj? Please inform us, O honorable Shaykh, may Allah reward you
A : If someone is found to serve your sick father in the required manner, and a mahram is found to accompany your mother on Hajj, then it is obligatory for her to perform the obligatory Hajj; because it is a pillar of Islam, and the conditions for its obligation and performance are present. Therefore, it is not permissible for her to delay it; due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Ali 'Imran 3:97] . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
