Hajj on behalf of the mother
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 13934 )
Q1: I am an Egyptian primary school teacher, seconded to the Kingdom, in my fourth and final year. By the grace and blessing of Allah, I was able to perform
the obligatory Hajj last year, 1410 AH. I have six sons, in addition to my mother and my wife, who have no provider other than me, after Allah. I have no income other than my salary from my job. As you know, Your Eminence, Hajj has become financially burdensome these days, meaning that an Egyptian pilgrim needs approximately five thousand pounds, and this amount is beyond the capacity and ability of the middle class like us. Since my mother, who is approaching seventy years of age, does not have this amount and has no private property that can be sold to arrange this amount to perform the obligation , is it permissible for me to perform the obligatory Hajj on her behalf due to her financial inability , and how? And because the costs are simple due to my presence on the land of the Kingdom. Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A1 : There is no Hajj obligation on your mother due to the lack of ability, and your Hajj does not suffice on her behalf; because she is able to perform Hajj with her body if she had the money. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
