Finding money with which he can perform Hajj: Does he perform Hajj on behalf of his father?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 17778 )
Q1: What is the ruling for a Muslim to whom Allah has provided sustenance with which he can perform Hajj, while his father has not performed Hajj and the money is not sufficient for both of them? Does the son perform Hajj without his father, or does the father go first?
A1 : If a person finds money with which he can perform Hajj, it is obligatory for him to perform the Hajj of Islam. It is not permissible for him to perform Hajj on behalf of his father with that money, nor should he perform it for himself; because performing Hajj on behalf of his father is recommended, while performing it for himself is obligatory in this case. Also, if his father has specific money of his own, it is obligatory for him to perform the Hajj of Islam. If he does not have money, Hajj is not obligatory upon him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
