Intercourse during the day in Ramadan without ejaculation: is expiation required?

Fatwa number ( 12715 )
Q: I am a young man who married recently, close to Ramadan. At the beginning of the month of Ramadan, I had intercourse with my wife, and we both desired it at the same time. We did this during the day, but I did not ejaculate; because I believed that if nothing is ejaculated, we do not owe expiation, and if semen is ejaculated, we owe expiation. In the following Ramadan, we did the same thing, except that my wife did not agree to it; because she became doubtful that we owed expiation for what we did, and I ejaculated
a questioner without realizing whether we owed expiation in the first month and the second month of Ramadan. So, I am trying to feed sixty poor people. What is the amount that is sufficient for (60) poor people during the two months, for me and my wife? Or direct us to an address to which we can send the amount to be the expiation for that. Please inform us about this. May Allah reward you with good and guide your steps.
A: If the matter is as you mentioned, it is obligatory for each of you to pay expiation, along with making up the day on which you broke your fast, even if you did not ejaculate. You must also repent and seek forgiveness for what occurred. The expiation is: freeing a believing slave. If you do not find one, then fast two consecutive months. If you are unable to do so, then feed sixty poor people, giving each poor person half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of dates, wheat, rice, or the like of the local staple food. As for the last day, you owe the making up of the fast and the expiation. As for the wife, if she was coerced, then expiation is not obligatory upon her; rather, it is only obligatory upon her to make up the fast. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
