Ruling on the zakah of money saved to complete one's studies

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q58: The questioner says: A person has saved money over many years with the intention of completing his master's and doctoral degrees. This money has reached the nisab for zakah, but he has not paid the zakah on it. This is because he asked someone he believed to have knowledge, and they told him that zakah is not due on this money if it is held with this intention. What is the Shari'ah ruling in this matter?
A58: This fatwa is incorrect. It is not permissible for them to issue fatwas without knowledge. When money reaches the nisab and a lunar year has passed over it, zakah becomes obligatory on it, regardless of the intention. Whether the intention is for studies, building houses, marriage, or any other need.
