Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q495: The questioner, Umm 'Ali from Riyadh, says: We ask you, may Allah reward you with good, to clarify the dispensations for travel regarding a traveler who is away for three days?
A495: The dispensations for travel; Allah the Exalted said regarding them:[An-Nisa 4:101],
and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to shorten the prayer from the time he set out until he returned from his journey. Likewise, among the dispensations for travel is breaking the fast during the day in Ramadan. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:184], and He said: [Al-Baqarah 2:185]. So the traveler has the option to break his fast in Ramadan; this was made a dispensation for him out of leniency toward him. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:185]. Also, among the dispensations for travel is wiping over the leather socks if he is wearing them for three days and their nights. This is one of the dispensations for travel.
A495: The dispensations for travel; Allah the Exalted said regarding them:
And when you travel throughout the land, there is no blame upon you for shortening the prayer, [especially] if you fear that those who disbelieve may disrupt [or attack] you. Indeed, the disbelievers are ever to you a clear enemy.
وَإِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَقْصُرُوا مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ إِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَنْ يَفْتِنَكُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنَّ الْكَافِرِينَ كَانُوا لَكُمْ عَدُوًّا مُبِينًاand the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to shorten the prayer from the time he set out until he returned from his journey. Likewise, among the dispensations for travel is breaking the fast during the day in Ramadan. Allah the Exalted said:
So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]
فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَThe month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days
Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship
يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلاَ يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ
