Fatwa number ( 15346 )
Q: My wife previously suffered burns on her body, which occurred in the year 1408 AH. As a result of these burns, she was admitted to the hospital and remained there until the end of the year. She was unable to fast the month of Ramadan in that year, 1408 AH, because the doctor prohibited it, and her body was bleeding and receiving nutrients. She also had to make up one week of Ramadan from the year 1407 AH. Upon leaving the hospital, she fasted the month of Ramadan for the year 1408 AH, and then fasted the week from the previous year, i.e., 1407 AH. Is her fasting valid, given that she fasted the year 1408 AH first, and then fasted the week from the year 1407 AH ? I ask for clarification of the issue and the method of expiation or feeding if she owes anything?
A: Her fasting of the days she missed from the month of Ramadan is valid. If she was able to make up the seven days before Ramadan, she must feed one poor person for each day
due to the delay until the second Ramadan. As for the fasting she performed, it is valid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
