Fasting — for example — does not end with the end of Ramadan. Fasting is prescribed at all times, and the best of fasting is the fasting of Dawud, who would fast one day and break his fast the next. There are other types of fasting as well,Among them: Fasting the six days of Shawwal. For it is said: “Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwal is as if he fasted the entire year.” So if a person fasts all of Ramadan, whether as a performance or as a performance and making up missed days if he has any to make up, and then follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is like fasting the entire year. It is also established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: “Fasting three days of every month is like fasting the entire year.” It is also established from him that he said: “Fasting the Day of 'Arafah, I hope that Allah will expiate the year before it and the year after it.” And regarding fasting the Day of 'Ashura, which is the tenth of the month of Muharram, he said: “I hope that Allah will expiate the year before it.” And he commanded fasting the day before it or the day after it.

And he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: “The best fasting after Ramadan is the fasting in the month of Allah, Muharram.”
