A woman afflicted by a fire: Is she obligated to make up the fast?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 14129 )
Q: I have a wife whom Allah afflicted with a fire incident caused by a kerosene refrigerator catching fire. She has been injured in parts of her body as a result of this fire for several years. Ramadan has arrived, and she is ill, being treated in the hospital, and she is also pregnant. She gave birth in the hospital during her illness and stayed in the hospital for approximately a year. She has not made up the fast for the month of Ramadan that came upon her while she was ill in the hospital until now, as she is sometimes pregnant and sometimes ill. As I mentioned, she has not made up the fast for Ramadan until now. Is she obligated to make up the fast for Ramadan, or is something else required of her? Therefore, please inform us of what you see, Your Eminence, regarding these religious matters, and guide us to the obligatory duty upon her regarding making up the fast or otherwise. May Allah preserve you and illuminate your insight and understanding, and peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
A: It is obligatory for your wife to make up the fast for the days she broke from
Ramadan. If the delay extended to another Ramadan without an excuse, it is obligatory for her, in addition to making up the fast, to pay an expiation for each day by feeding a poor person from the staple food of the land. The amount is half a sa' of wheat, rice, or the like for each poor person. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
