A woman suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 16830 )
Q: I am a woman suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. I have to make up two months and ten days of fasting for previous Ramadans during which I was pregnant and the doctors prohibited me from fasting. Is it permissible for me to give charity in lieu of the days of fasting, and what is the amount? Is it permissible for my children to fast on my behalf while I am still alive? Peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings.
A: It is obligatory for you to make up the number of days you owe from the past Ramadans. If you are unable to make up the fasting due to your illness and recovery from that illness is not expected, then you must feed one poor person for each day the amount of half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of the staple food of the country, which is equivalent to one and a half kilograms. The expiation is to be given to the poor, even if it is to just one poor person, and it is permissible to give it all at once. It is not permissible for your children to fast on your behalf while you are alive. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
