A diabetic patient whose fasting affects his condition
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 2143 )
Q5: I am a diabetic patient, and fasting affects me. I am seventy-two years old, and I have some forgetfulness in prayer, which may be due to the effects of diabetes and thinking.
A5: If you have found through experience that fasting worsens your illness or delays your recovery, or if a trustworthy, skilled Muslim doctor has informed you that fasting harms you, then break your fast. You must make up the missed days after you recover. If, may Allah forbid, the illness persists and you are unable to make up the fasts, and you are convinced that it will not end, then feed one poor person for every day you broke your fast, giving half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of wheat, dates, rice, or similar food that you feed your family. We ask Allah for success and healing for us and for you.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
