The questioner : His second question says: I always hear a noble hadith, but I do not grasp its meaning, which is
The adornment of the man extends to where the wudu extends
What is its meaning?

The Shaykh : The hadith is:
In a believer adornment would reach the places where ablution reaches.
Sahih Muslim 250
.

The questioner : ... the authenticity of the hadith.

The Shaykh : This is the wording of the hadith.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : The meaning is that when the people of Paradise enter Paradise, they are adorned therein, as Allah Mighty and Majestic said:
They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearl
[Al-Hajj 22:23]
And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver
[Al-Insan 76:21]
Thus, the believer is adorned in Paradise, whether male or female, with this adornment to where the wudu extends. Accordingly, the adornment extends to the elbows, because the wudu extends to the elbows. This is the meaning of the hadith to which the questioner referred.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : But does it not contain an encouragement to increase the wudu beyond the specified areas?

The Shaykh : No, it does not.

The questioner : It is not understood from it?

The Shaykh : It is not understood from it, because the wudu extends to a specific place that Allah the Exalted determined in the Qur'an in His saying:
and your forearms to the elbows
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
.

The questioner : Yes.
