The ruling on taking intermediaries from among the awliya (close friends of Allah) and the righteous
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q289: What is the ruling on taking intermediaries between Allah and His servants, such as the awliya (close friends of Allah) and the righteous? Does this take one out of the fold of Islam?
A289: This is not prescribed. Taking intermediaries from among the created beings between the servants and Allah is not prescribed. It is obligatory for the servants to call upon Allah directly. Allah the Exalted said:[Ghafir 40:60]
And He the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:186]. Therefore, it is not permissible to take intermediaries from among the created beings between you and Allah in the answering of supplication. If the matter is limited to making them intermediaries in the acceptance of supplication, then this is a religious innovation (bid'ah). However, if one diverts some of the acts of worship to them so that they bring it closer to Allah, then this is major shirk (associating partners with Allah), as He the Exalted said: [Yunus 10:18].
A289: This is not prescribed. Taking intermediaries from among the created beings between the servants and Allah is not prescribed. It is obligatory for the servants to call upon Allah directly. Allah the Exalted said:
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.
And He the Exalted said:
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
And they worship other than Allah that which neither harms them nor benefits them, and they say, "These are our intercessors with Allah
