Taking partners alongside Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 16099 )
Q 4: In Nigeria there are associations that believe in the Qur'an and the Sunnah, but some of those who belong to them believe in things that cause problems in people's creed, such as: taking partners, diviners, sorcery, and magic, among other things. These matters exist in some Islamic institutions. What should be done with them?
Vol. 4 : Taking partners with Allah means directing some of the worship to other than Allah, such as idols, the awliya (close friends of Allah), the righteous, the people of graves, and the sheikhs of the Sufi paths. This is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) that takes one out of the religion; because Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) commanded that He alone be worshipped with no partner, and He forbade worshipping other than Him or associating others with Him in worship. He the Exalted said:
Worship Allah and associate nothing with Himوَاعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَلاَ تُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا
[An-Nisa 4:36]
, and He the Exalted said:
so do not invoke with Allah anyone.
[Al-Jinn 72:18]
,
and He refuted those who worship the awliya and the righteous on the pretext that they are intercessors with Allah, saying: He the Exalted said:
And they worship other than Allah that which neither harms them nor benefits them, and they say, "These are our intercessors with Allah " Say, "Do you inform Allah of something He does not know in the heavens or on the earth?" Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Himوَيَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لاَ يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلاَ يَنْفَعُهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ هَؤُلاءِ شُفَعَاؤُنَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ قُلْ أَتُنَبِّئُونَ اللَّهَ بِمَا لاَ يَعْلَمُ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَلاَ فِي الأَرْضِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
[Yunus 10:18]
and He the Exalted said:
So worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion. (3) Unquestionably, for Allah is the pure religion. And those who take protectors besides Him [say], "We only worship them that they may bring us nearer to Allah in position." Indeed, Allah will judge between them concerning that over which they differ. Indeed, Allah does not guide he who is a liar and [confirmed] disbeliever.
[Az-Zumar 39:2-3]
. As for magic: learning it, teaching it, and practicing it is disbelief in Allah (Mighty and Majestic) that takes one out of the religion; because of His saying, the Exalted:
And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]." And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah. And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew.
[Al-Baqarah 2:102]
the verse.
And sorcery, which is the magic of people's eyes so that they see things other than what they are, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said about the magicians of Pharaoh :
seemed to him from their magic that they were movingيُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَى
[Taha 20:66]
It is a type of magic, so its ruling is the same as its ruling. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) counted magic among the greatest of major sins, and divination is a type of claiming knowledge of the unseen, which no one knows except Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and claiming knowledge of the unseen is among the nullifiers of Islam, and it is not permissible to go to the diviner or to believe him, because of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.
Sahih Muslim 2230
narrated by Muslim . And in another hadith:
Whoever goes to a diviner or a fortune-teller and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:740
(peace and blessings be upon him). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his companions.
