The Trusted Funds in Which Zakah Is Obligatory
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18401 )
Q2: I have a trust of a sum of money belonging to some of my relatives,
and I am their guardian after the death of their father. Is there zakah on this money or not? And is it obligatory for me to invest it ? If I am unable to invest it due to illness or a job that occupies me from it, such as an official position, how can I invest it for the benefit of these heirs? And is there zakah on it or not, whether I increase it or not? Greetings to you.
A2: It is obligatory for you to pay the zakah of this money if it reaches the nisab and a lunar year has passed over it. Part of fulfilling the duty of the legal guardianship is investing the funds of those under guardianship so that the zakah does not consume them. Your reference for all of this is the Shari'ah court, so you must consult it, and it will look into this matter in the Shari'ah manner. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
