Zakah in Commercial Establishments

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 14476 )
Q: I have a grocery store with a capital of approximately 2,500 Egyptian pounds, and I have a partner in this store. I borrowed approximately 600 pounds from this amount, leaving my share of this amount at 650. Is zakah obligatory on this? My share of the income from the aforementioned store is approximately 100 Egyptian pounds. Is zakah obligatory on this? And this income does not exceed the household needs.
A: Zakah is obligatory in commercial establishments on what is displayed for sale every year. The goods are appraised at the end of the lunar year, and the value is added to the cash available in the store and the debts owed to it by customers, and one-quarter of a tenth is paid out. The debts owed by the owner do not prevent the obligation of zakah.
As for what he spent from the store's profits on the household before the completion of the lunar year, there is no zakah on it, nor on the debts he pays before the completion of the lunar year. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
