Is there zakah on diamonds
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 19949 )
Q1: I have a diamond set on display for sale for four months. Is there zakah on it?
A1: If a lunar year has passed since this diamond was put on display for sale, and it has not been sold, then zakah is obligatory on it; because it is from trade goods. Its value is assessed when the lunar year is completed. If its value at the time of assessment reaches the nisab or more, then it is obligatory to pay out one-tenth of its value at the time of assessment. And whenever another lunar year is completed and it has not been sold, it is assessed when the lunar year is completed and its zakah is paid out as one-tenth of its value at the time of assessment.
