Ruling on Reciting the Beautiful Names of Allah After the Obligatory Prayers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q166: The questioner says: When we pray the obligatory prayer in the mosque, we stand up afterwards to recite the Noble Qur'an, which is our daily portion. After that, they recite the Beautiful Names of Allah, and they all repeat the name "Ya Latif" (O Most Gentle) more than a hundred times. Is this prescribed or an innovation?
A166: Reciting the Beautiful Names of Allah after the prayers, making it a habit, and repeating the word "Ya Latif" or "Ya Mu'in" in a specific manner and with a loud voice, and similar daily recitations that have no evidence in the Book and the Sunnah, nor from the righteous Salaf; all of this is among the innovations introduced in Islam. The best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is misguidance. As for the Beautiful Names of Allah, Allah the Exalted says:
And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.
[Al-A'raf 7:180]
, so supplicating to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He)
with His Names and Attributes, and seeking nearness to Him through them, is prescribed. However, this should not be made at a specific time, or after an obligatory prayer, for this requires evidence indicating that, and there is no evidence indicating such specification. And Allah the Exalted knows best.
