Ruling on Hanging Verses and Names on Graves

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q103: Is it permissible to place a piece of iron, or a sign, on a deceased person's grave with Qur'anic verses written on it, in addition to the deceased's name and date of death?
A103: Writing on graves is not permissible, neither the deceased's name, nor his biography, nor his date of death. All of that is forbidden. Because this causes exaggeration regarding this deceased person, and seeking blessing from him among the ignorant, the common people, and the foolish. As for placing a marker on it that only he knows, such as a stone he places on the grave, so that he visits it and prays for its owner, there is no harm in that. As for markers that are known and written upon, that is more severe.
