The Meaning of Allah the Exalted’s Companionship

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q84: The questioner asks: What is meant by the companionship of Allah in His saying, Blessed and Exalted is He:
indeed Allah is with usإِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَنَا
[At-Tawbah 9:40]
And does companionship have categories?

A84: Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is above His heavens, established upon His Throne. He possesses absolute elevation: elevation of essence, elevation of rank, and elevation of dominion. All of this
It is established for Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) that, while He is above His heavens, rising above the Throne, He is with His creation by His knowledge and encompassing awareness; nothing is hidden from Him (Glorified and Exalted is He). Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, from Allah nothing is hidden in the earth nor in the heaven.إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَخْفَى عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلاَ فِي السَّمَاءِ
[Ali 'Imran 3:5]
; and He said:
indeed Allah is with usإِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَنَا
[At-Tawbah 9:40]
. Thus, this presence is a presence of knowledge and encompassing awareness, and a presence of support and aid. It is of two types: a presence of knowledge and encompassing awareness for all created beings, believers and disbelievers alike, and a presence of support and aid, which is with the believers:
Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good.إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مُحْسِنُونَ
[An-Nahl 16:128]
. And Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said to Musa and Harun (peace be upon them both) when He sent them to Pharaoh:
[Allah] said, "Fear not. Indeed, I am with you both; I hear and I see.قَالَ لاَ تَخَافَا إِنَّنِي مَعَكُمَا أَسْمَعُ وَأَرَى
[Taha 20:46]
. He was with them by His knowledge, support, and aid (Glorified and Exalted is He), so they did not fear Pharaoh’s violence, for Allah was with them, protecting them, preserving them, and supporting them. And this was realized; the realization of
Allah’s promise to Musa and Harun (peace be upon them both) was fulfilled, so Allah preserved them and granted them victory over Pharaoh, and He destroyed Pharaoh and his soldiers. Thus, presence is of two types: it is not a presence of mixing and touching, as the *Hululiyyah* claim, but rather a presence of knowledge and encompassing awareness, and a presence of support and aid. This is established even for created beings; the moon is in the sky, and yet they say, “We continue to travel with the moon with us,” meaning by its light and illumination, while it is in the sky. The meaning of presence is not always touching and mixing; rather, it is of two types: a presence of mixing and touching, which applies to created beings in relation to one another, and a presence of knowledge and encompassing awareness, and support and aid, which applies to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in relation to His believing servants.
