The ruling on seeking nearness to Allah through the supplication of the righteous
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q46: The questioner asks: What is the ruling on seeking nearness to Allah through the supplication of some of the righteous?
A46: There is nothing wrong with saying to a righteous man who is present with you, “May Allah reward you,” for there is nothing wrong with that. ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did this in the presence of the Companions when they sought rain. He ordered al-‘Abbas ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib to supplicate to Allah for rain on their behalf because he was a relative of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and therefore his supplication was more likely to be accepted.
