The Ruling on Supplication from a Book

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible for me to make supplication from books that contain many supplications, which I do not memorize, but rather I rely on reading them?

Answer:
If you do not know of any objectionable matter in them, there is nothing wrong with it. If there is no objectionable matter in them, there is nothing wrong with it... If they are good, that is fine. But if they involve seeking nearness to Allah through means other than Allah, such as seeking nearness through the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or through the righteous, then do not make supplication with them. Leave off seeking nearness through means. Say: "O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me. O Allah, guide me. O Allah, grant me beneficial knowledge by Your names and Your attributes."
Do not say in your supplication: "By the status of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)" or "By the right of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)" or "By the status of the righteous" or "By the right of my father" or "By the status of my father." This is a religious innovation in seeking nearness through means, according to the correct opinion of the scholars. Seeking nearness through the prophets, or through the righteous, or through your fathers, or by the right of your fathers—all of this is a religious innovation in asking, and it should be left off. But one should say: "O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy, by Your goodness, by Your pardon." One seeks nearness through the names and attributes of Allah. There is nothing wrong with that. Yes...

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
