Question 6 from Fatwa No. ( 15925 )
Q6: I live here in Saudi Arabia , and my wife is in Egypt and my son is there too, so do I have to pay zakat al-fitr on their behalf ? For your information, she lives with my father, my mother, and my sisters, and eats with them, so is my father entitled to pay for them, while I am in Egypt ? Knowing that some of our relatives there are eligible for it
A6 : You pay the alms given at the end of Ramadan for yourself in the country where the month of Ramadan ends while you are in it. Your father pays for your wife and children in the country where they reside. If you pay their alms along with yours in the country where you reside, there is nothing wrong with it. Likewise, if they pay for you in the country where they are. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions
