Q: I submit this question to your eminence, in which I ask about the amount of zakat al-fitr in kilograms . I know that I have paid it on behalf of four members of my family with 10 kilograms of rice, and after that I doubted the matter and asked about the amount per person, and I was told that it is 2.25 kilograms. I ask your eminence to inform me of the amount in kilograms, and if there is a shortfall, what should I do, O Shaykh? Please issue a ruling, may you be rewarded, and may Allah reward you with the best reward. This is what my question contains.
A : The amount of zakat al-fitr per person is approximately three kilograms of rice or other staple food of the country, and accordingly, he must make up the shortfall in the zakat for the four mentioned as qada' (making up a missed act of worship). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
