A word on zakat al-fitr: its amount and who it is obligatory upon.

The Shaykh : We have one remaining issue, which is zakat al-fitr. Zakat al-fitr is a sa' of food, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made obligatory upon every male and female, young and old, among the Muslims. He ordered that it be paid before the people go out to pray, meaning on the day of the festival, before the prayer. This is the best time to pay it, but it is permissible to pay it one or two days before the festival.
