Fatwa No. ( 17286 )
Q: I received from some of my brothers a sum of eight hundred riyals (800), which they informed me is the zakat on their camels for the past year, 1414 AH. They stated that their camels are subject to the zakat of a two-year-old camel (thaniyyah). The worker asked for its value, as indicated above, but he could not find cash. He offered them sheep in exchange for the value, but they told him: it is not permissible to take sheep in place of camels. The worker then obtained this amount, and after obtaining it, he sent it to me with the intention of distributing it. I would like to keep it until you inform me how I should distribute it, as it is from the specific categories of zakat, along with a comprehensive explanation for a case like this.
A: You must distribute it to the poor, with the intention that it is the zakat of its owner. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
