Zakat for the years left off out of laziness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 20218 )
Q: If a man is an employee who relies on his monthly salary for his livelihood and other expenses, such as getting married, renting and furnishing an apartment, and paying the rent, among other necessary expenses, and if he deposits the remainder of his salary in one of the banking companies and at the end of each year he pays zakah on the total amount remaining, and he has been in this
situation for a period, let us say twelve years, and he is a righteous man who maintains the five daily prayers and believes that zakah is a pillar of Islam, but he did not pay zakah in some of the years, not out of denial of its obligation and requirement, but out of laziness on his part , which led to delaying the payment of zakah, and sometimes he pays part of the due zakah and leaves part until he forgets how many years he did not pay zakah, and forgets exactly how much money he had in those years. The question is: after that, he repented from delaying the payment of zakah and began to pay zakah regularly, and he feels regret about some of the years in which he was lazy. Do those years in which he did not pay zakah before his repentance drop off him, on the basis that repentance wipes out what came before it? And if they do not drop off, what is the method, given that he has forgotten the number of those years and forgotten exactly how much money he had at the end of each year? May Allah reward you with good in both worlds

A : It is obligatory for this person to pay the zakah for the years he left or some of them, and if he does not know the amount or the amount of the zakatable wealth, he must be cautious in that to clear his conscience, and zakah does not drop off by the passage of its time; because it is a right that Allah has made obligatory for its recipients, so the conscience is not cleared except by paying it to them, and along with that, he must make sincere repentance for leaving the payment of the zakah of his wealth or some of it, and resolve not to return to such a thing, along with increasing in voluntary acts of obedience,
and increasing in voluntary charity in the causes of good and righteousness, so that perhaps Allah will accept his repentance and replace his bad deeds with good ones. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
