Fatwa number ( 19579 )
Q: I am in charge of a mosque, and a person gave me a sum of money to pay the salary of a Quran memorization teacher. It happened that another person undertook to pay the teacher's salary for the entire duration of the teaching. A while ago, a person came to me whose mother had passed away and left a debt, and he is unable to pay it off. Is it permissible for me to give this money in charity on behalf of the owner of the money? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
A: You must return the money to its owner and inform him of the situation. If he permits you to dispose of it in another area of good, then there is no harm in that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
