Q: The committee in Nigeria intends to launch a campaign to collect donations to provide the da'wah workers of the organization in Nigeria with some selected books; to enable them to carry out the call to Allah in the best manner, and to confront the challenges of Christianization and the invasion of ideas that contradict the methodology of the people of the Sunnah and the community. We are in the process of asking: Is it permissible to pay zakah to implement these projects, which include: 1- Buying books for the da'wah workers and making them into a kit for the da'wah worker. 2- Buying bicycles for the transportation of the da'wah workers during their work in calling to Allah. 3- Buying loudspeakers to be used in calling to Allah in markets and public gatherings. 4- Establishing libraries to be a reference for the da'wah and Muslims and anyone who wants to know about Islam. They will also be used as centers for training and qualifying da'wah workers. We also ask your Eminence to kindly inform us if spending zakah is not permissible
for all the items mentioned above, we ask your Eminence to explain what is permissible to spend zakah on and what is not permissible to spend it on . May Allah benefit us and the Muslims with your knowledge.
A: Zakah for what was mentioned is not permissible; because it does not fall under the general statement of Allah the Exalted in mentioning the recipients of zakah:[At-Tawbah 9:60] , due to its restriction to the warriors, and some scholars have reported the consensus on that, but it is permissible to spend it on the poor among the teachers and da'wah workers to Allah the Exalted, or other employees and students because of their poverty; due to the statement of Allah the Exalted: [At-Tawbah 9:60] , the verse. And Allah knows best. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
