Fatwa No. ( 20139 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and may blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after that: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the esteemed Director of the Center for Da'wah and Guidance, in Dammam, 'Abd al-Muhsin ibn Muhammad al-Bunyan. It was referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars with number (119) and date 2/1/1419 AH. His letter included the inquiry submitted by the one called Rashid ibn Muhammad al-Zahrani, who asks about the legal ruling on naming his establishment "The Sahabi Establishment for Ready-Made Clothing." His inquiry states: "I inform your eminence that I have a commercial establishment which I named 'The Sahabi Establishment' pursuant to the commercial register, a copy of which is attached. However, I was surprised when one of the men of the Commission for Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Vice prevented the vehicle from selling in the city of al-Hafar al-Batin, expressed his objection to the name, and requested that the establishment's name be changed, claiming that the name is forbidden to use. I tried to convince this man and asked him to provide evidence for the prohibition of
this name, but he insisted on his opinion and said that if he saw this vehicle again, he would impound it and the driver. At that point, I contacted the Commission for Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Vice in the Eastern Region, and they requested a fatwa on this name for the establishment. Therefore, I submit this request to you, asking for a fatwa on this name for the establishment, knowing that this title belongs to my father and his family, the one called Muhammad Ma'iz al-Zahrani, who is known among his community and relatives by the name: (Muhammad al-Sahabi). It is a name given after one of the shaykhs, who was a judge in the city of al-Ta'if about 65 years ago. I hope for an official fatwa from your eminence, so that we may have this fatwa to present when requested. I offer you my sincere thanks and appreciation. May Allah preserve you and protect you. Accept my sincere greetings.
After the Committee’s study of the inquiry, it answered that there is no harm in naming the aforementioned company “The Sahabi Company.” And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
