Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : There is much ignorance regarding zakat al-fitr among the owners of institutions and the employees working for them. We find that the employees do not pay the zakat, and they do not even find anyone to remind them of it. What should be done? And if each of them is in a similar situation to the others in terms of need and poverty, is it permissible for some of them to pay it to others? I ask for guidance and advice for the owners of institutions and others.

The Shaykh : Our advice to the owners of institutions is to remind these employees of the obligation of zakat al-fitr upon them. And if Allah grants them success, meaning the owners of the institutions, by paying it on behalf of these employees, that is better. The owner of the institution knows the eligible recipients in the country, and he is able to perform the zakat al-fitr on behalf of these employees. However, the employees may be numerous, and it may not be easy for him to pay their zakat al-fitr. So we say that each one of them should pay his own zakat. And if they are similar in need, as the questioner said, and some of them pay their zakat to others, there is no harm. Yes.
