Finding money and announcing it without finding its owner
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of the fatwa number ( 18252 )
Q6: I performed Hajj a few years ago and found 1000 riyals in the courtyard of the Haram . I took them and started asking, "Whose is this?" but no one answered. So I intended to give it in charity on behalf of its owner. After the farewell tawaf, I left the Haram and bought some fruit with half the amount from Makkah. While we were on the road, I distributed the fruit among the travelers with me. Does this detract from my Hajj? Because I heard that one who is performing the farewell tawaf is not permitted to buy or stay overnight in Makkah?
A6: Lost property found in the Haram must be announced continuously until it reaches its owner, and ownership is not established by announcing it. Whoever does not announce it must hand it over to the department responsible for lost items in the Haram. You made a mistake in taking these riyals, and it is obligatory to return them to the department responsible for lost items in the Haram, along with repentance to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
