Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: We complain to Allah, then to Your Excellency, of what we, the group of Ahmad al-Ghamidi Mosque in the Shifa district, are suffering from: the presence of one of the worshippers, an elderly man over eighty years old, who is unable to control his urination—may Allah reward you. We have made every effort with him for four years, and we provided him with a chair and a sponge to sit on, but he did not respond to us and insisted on sitting on the floor. We have seen with our own eyes his impurity on the prayer mat and on his clothes, and we have suffered greatly from cleaning up after him. We ask your eminence to kindly issue a ruling on this matter, and may you be rewarded.
A: It is obligatory for the aforementioned person to place a barrier to protect his private parts from urine leaking onto his body and the floor of the mosque, and he should pray according to his condition. If he is unable to do so, it is not permissible for him to attend the mosque; he should pray in his home and is excused for missing the congregational prayer. Know that, if Allah wills, the reward of the one who prays with the congregation will be recorded for him; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith:Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 5:6 .
