The Intended Meaning of Khuffayn and Jawarib

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q14: What is the intended meaning of khuffayn and jawarib ? And what is the method of wiping over the leather socks and the necessary conditions for it?
A14: The intended meaning of khuffayn is what is worn on the leg, made of leather or the like, covering the ankles, including what is known today as boots. The intended meaning of jawarib is what is worn on the foot, woven from cotton or the like, covering the ankles, which is what is known today as socks. As for the method of wiping, one passes his wet fingers over the top of his foot from the tips of the toes to the shin, and the wiping is done with both hands on both legs simultaneously; the right hand wipes the right leg and the left hand wipes the left leg at the same time, because this is the apparent meaning of the Sunnah, based on the statement of al-Mughirah
ibn Shu'bah
(may Allah be pleased with him):
and he wiped over themفمسح عليهما
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and it is the preferred method. However, wiping over the top of the khuff or the jorab in any manner is permissible. It is a condition for wiping over the khuffayn that it be done in a state of minor ritual purity, so there is no wiping from the causes that necessitate the full ritual bath. It is also a condition that they be put on while in a state of purity, based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he wanted to remove his khuffayn:
He ordered me to leave them as he had put them after performing ablutionدعهما فإني أدخلتهما طاهرتين
Sahih al-Bukhari 206
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. It is also a condition that they cover the obligatory area, meaning they cover the feet along with the ankles. It is also a condition that what is wiped over be pure, so wiping over a khuff made from pig skin is not valid, nor is wiping over one defiled by urine or other impurities. It is also a condition that what is wiped over be permissible, so there is no wiping over a silk sock for a man. The duration of wiping for a resident is one day and one night, and for a traveler it is three days and their nights. The duration of wiping begins from the first wipe after a state of ritual impurity. The basis for this is what Muslim narrated from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:
For the traveler it is three days and nights, and for the resident it is one day and one night.للمسافر ثلاثة أيام ولياليهن وللمقيم يوم وليلة
Sunan Ibn Majah 555Da'if (Darussalam)

Q15: When wiping over the pilot's boots (bustar) and praying in them , is the prayer valid if one removes them and wipes over the socks?
A15: If you put on the pilot's boots (bustar) while in a state of purity and wiped over them after a state of ritual impurity, then removed them and kept the socks on, you do not have
the right to wipe over the socks.

Q16: If the pilot did not put on the bustar while in a state of purity and the time for prayer arrives while he is on the plane, what should he do?
A16: If the pilot puts on the bustar while not in a state of purity, it is not permissible to wipe over them, and he must remove them and wash his legs, because it is a condition for wiping over them that they be put on while in a state of purity, based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he wanted to remove his khuffayn:
He ordered me to leave them as he had put them after performing ablutionدعهما فإني أدخلتهما طاهرتين
Sahih al-Bukhari 206
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. If it is difficult for him to remove them or wash them, and he fears that the time for prayer will end, he should perform dry ablution with clean earth and pray, because in this state he is considered unable to use water.
