If the crop is harvested before its grain has hardened
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20057 )
Q1: I have a farm where I plant crops, such as corn. When the crop grows tall and the grain is about to emerge, I cut it down because I have many sheep—may Allah praise Him—to use as fodder for them, without benefiting from the grain. Is there any sin on me for cutting it down before it ripens and the grain emerges? And is there any zakah due on this cut crop used as fodder for the animals, or not? May Allah guide you.
A1: If the crop is harvested before its grain has hardened, there is no zakah due on it, because it was harvested before the time when zakah becomes obligatory on it. As for harvesting it before the grain hardens in order to feed it to livestock or for other purposes, there is nothing wrong with that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
