Zakah in a field in which the wife assists her husband

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 16654 )
Q1: What is your opinion regarding a woman who serves her husband to the extent that she assists him in working the field, while observing hijab? Is that permissible or not? Does she sin by doing this work, given that he did not oblige her to do it, but she did it of her own free will? And is there zakah in the earnings from which both spouses share, where some people claim there is no zakah on the grounds that the woman assisted her husband at times?
A1: There is nothing wrong with the wife working in the field, provided she observes modesty in the presence of men who are not her mahram (relatives one may not marry). Zakah is obligatory on the produce of the field if it is from grains and fruits that are stored, such as dates, grapes, wheat, barley, and the like. The amount of the obligatory portion is one-tenth of what is irrigated at a cost, and one-tenth of what is irrigated without cost, such as by rain or rivers and the like. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
