The ruling on a husband paying zakah on behalf of his wife

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In the last of this questioner Samir’s questions, he asks in his final question: Is it valid for me to pay the zakah on my wife’s jewelry that she wears for adornment? And what is the stronger opinion regarding this, O Shaykh?

Answer:
There is no harm in paying the zakah on her behalf if she consents. If she permits you to pay the zakah on her jewelry, there is no harm. The stronger opinion is that there is zakah due on jewelry. This is the stronger view. If it reaches the nisab and a lunar year has passed over her gold and silver, the stronger opinion is that zakah is due on it. This is the most probable of the scholars’ opinions. And if she permits her husband, or her father, or her brother to pay the zakah from his wealth on her behalf, there is no harm.

The presenter: May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
