The husband's right over his wife

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From Sajir, a message sent by one of the listening brothers. The sender (Q. L. M) says: Your Eminence! I hope you will be kind enough to explain the husband's right over his wife; this is because there are complaints from many men about the disobedience of women and their insistence on their own opinions. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
It is obligatory for the wife to obey her husband in what is right, not to disobey him in sexual intercourse, and to serve him if she is of the type who serves, and not to leave her home, and in other matters that do not involve sin. It is her right to listen and obey her husband.
Many hadiths have come in this chapter commanding this, among which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith:
When a man calls his wife to come to his bed (for marital relations), and she refuses to come, and he spends the night in anger, the angels curse her till the morning.إذا دعا الرجل امرأته إلى فراشه، فأبت أن تجيء؛ لعنتها الملائكة حتى تصبح
Bulugh al-Maram 8:66
So it is obligatory for her to listen and obey her husband in what is right, not in sins.
Likewise, it is upon the husband to treat her with kindness, fear Allah, and not wrong her, neither in his speech nor in his action, as Allah the Exalted said:
And live with them in kindnessوَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
[Surat al-Nisa: 19] And He the Exalted said:
And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonableوَلَهُنَّ مِثْلُ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 228] meaning: just as it is upon them to treat [their husbands] with kindness, so it is also for them to be treated with kindness. So it is upon him to treat her with kindness, with good words, good conduct, and the appropriate financial maintenance that is obligatory for someone like him. And it is upon her to listen and obey in what is right, to respond to his need, to serve him in his home, and to beware of disobeying him in going out or otherwise. If each one does what is obligatory upon him, affairs will be set right and good relations will continue. But if each one wants the right for himself and does not fulfill what is upon him, affairs will be spoiled, and that will lead to divorce.
As for service, there is a detail: if the woman is of a type who is served, and she did not agree to serve, then he should serve her if that is feasible.
As for if the custom in her tribe or in her country is that she serves her husband, then she serves him as the women of her kind do in her tribe and community; because Allah says -Exalted and Majestic is He-:
And live with them in kindnessوَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
[Surat al-Nisa: 19]
And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonableوَلَهُنَّ مِثْلُ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 228] So what is right is what is customary among people in every land and in every time. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
