Fatwa No. ( 15139 )
Q: A person has forty-nine cows and two hundred cows. What is the zakah on them? We understand in our knowledge that the zakah is six mature cows or eight young cows. Is this correct? May Allah reward you, and we ask Allah for success for us and for you in all that pleases Him. Amen. Peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and may you be well every year.
A: It is obligatory to pay zakah on cattle if they are grazing for most of the lunar year—meaning they graze for the entire year or most of it. If the number reaches thirty, the zakah is a young cow (ta'ib) or a young female cow (ta'ibah). If the number reaches forty, the zakah is a mature cow (musinnah). For the number mentioned in the question, it is obligatory to pay six mature cows or eight young cows, or eight young female cows. This is based on what is in the Musnad of Imam Ahmad and the Four Sunan, where Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said: And in it: . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to collect the zakah from the people of Yemen. He ordered me to take from the cattle a young cow (ta'ib) from every thirty, and a mature cow (musinnah) from every forty...
بعثني رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أُصدق أهل اليمن، فأمرني أن آخذ من البقر من كل ثلاثين تبيعًا، ومن كل أربعين مسنة..And he ordered me not to take anything from what is in between those numbers.
وأمرني ألا آخذ فيما بين ذلك شيئًا
