Lost Cattle

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 986 )
Q1: He sold a cow to a man he did not know, then the cow strayed from the buyer's house to his own house. Since he did not know the buyer, he sold it and ate its price. He asks what is incumbent upon him?
A1: This cow, after the questioner disposed of it as he mentioned in the question, has the ruling of lost property. Since he mentioned that he sold it and ate its price,
he is obligated to announce it in the markets and gathering places for a period of one year. If its owner appears, he should inform him of what happened and hand over the value of the cow for which he sold it. If the owner does not appear, he should give its price in charity with the intention of guaranteeing it for its owner in case he is identified and claims it, and does not approve of the charity being given.
