Q5: In our town, in the rest period after the four rak'ahs of the tarawih prayer, the imam recites Surat al-Ikhlas three times and orders the worshippers to recite it. Is this permissible?
A5: Reciting Surat al-Ikhlas after the four rak'ahs of the tarawih prayer and repeating it three times is a religious innovation (bid'ah) with no basis in the pure Shari'ah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718a . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
