The virtue of reciting Surat al-Ikhlas three times

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence, Shaykh Abdulaziz, is asked: Is it true that whoever recites Surat al-Ikhlas three times is considered to have completed the recitation of the mushaf?

Answer:
Yes, it is equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an. This great surah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us that it is equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an. If one repeats it three times, it is like one who has completed the recitation of the Qur'an. One should recite it frequently, but one should not abandon the rest of the Qur'an. One should strive to read the entire Qur'an, from its beginning to its end, to secure a greater reward, and repeat this. And if one recites
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
[al-Ikhlas: 1] times, three times; for this great good; this is all good, but it should not prevent one from reading the entire Book of Allah. Rather, one is commanded to read the Book of Allah. The Prophet  said:
Recite the Qur'an; for it will come as an intercessor for its people on the Day of Resurrectionاقرؤوا القرآن؛ فإنه يأتي شفيعًا لأصحابه يوم القيامة
-peace and blessings be upon him- and he said:
Whoever reads the Qur'an; for him is a good deed for every letter, and the good deed is ten times its likeمن قرأ القرآن؛ فله بكل حرف حسنة، والحسنة بعشر أمثالها
the hadith, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
On the day of resurrection the Qur’ān and those who acted according to it will be brought with sūra al-Baqara and Āl ‘Imran preceding themيُدعى بالقرآن يوم القيامة، وبأهله الذين كانوا يعملون به، تقدمه سورة البقرة وآل عمران، كأنهما غيايتان
Mishkat al-Masabih 2121
or he said:
two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite themفرقان من طير صواف تحاجان عن أصحابهما
Sahih Muslim 804a
.
So you, Abdullah, have a great reward in reading the Noble Qur'an, both in terms of the great reward and in terms of it being an argument for you on the Day of Resurrection; because the Qur'an is an argument for you, or against you. It is an argument for you if you act upon it, obey Allah with what is in it of commands, and leave what is prohibited. And it is an argument against you if you do not act upon it. There is no power and no strength except with Allah. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
