Q: It has become customary in our area during the blessed month of Ramadan, in some villages including the one where I reside, that the mu'adhdhin calls out immediately after the taslim of the 'Isha' prayer, saying: "O nation of fasting and standing in prayer, O nation of the best of mankind, O nation of 'Abd al-Malik al-'Alam, may Allah reward you for the night prayer" - then we pray two rak'ahs, and the mu'adhdhin calls out with this phrase, then we pray two rak'ahs, and the mu'adhdhin calls out with this phrase, and so on until the prayer ends. The inquiry is: Is it permissible for me to pray with them, or should I pray alone in my home? Please note that there is no other mosque available. If it is not permissible to pray with them, does this apply to both the night prayer and the obligatory prayer, or only to the night prayer? And if it is not permissible to pray with them in the night prayer, is it permissible for me to pray
with my family in my home in congregation? Therefore, I hope you will look into this and provide guidance. May Allah preserve you, care for you, and grant you His help and success?
A: This call that occurs between every two taslims of the tarawih prayer is an innovated call that is not permissible to perform; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani) , and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 1718b . Therefore, it is obligatory for you to disapprove of this practice and forbid it. If they do not comply or abandon it, then you must report it to the authority responsible for mosques in your area to prevent it and dismiss the one who does not comply, replacing him with someone who follows the Sunnah and avoids innovations. If they do not abandon it, then do not pray tarawih and the night prayer with them, due to witnessing the evil and being unable to remove it. As for the obligatory prayer, it is obligatory for you to pray with them; because the evil only occurs after that. There is no blame on you for praying tarawih and the night prayer in congregation with your family. May Allah bless you. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
