What is the last time for the witr prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. A questioner is asking about the last time for the witr prayer?

The Shaykh : About what?

The questioner : About the last time for the witr prayer?

The Shaykh : Yes, the witr prayer begins from the 'Isha' prayer, and even if you combine it with Maghrib by advancing it, the witr is permissible. It ends, and its time ends, with the dawn. The evidence for this is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Make Witr the end of your night prayer. اجعلوا آخر صلاتكم بالليل وترا
Sahih Muslim 751b
and his saying:
If one of you fears the morning, he prays one and makes odd what he has prayed. فإذا خشي أحدكم الصبح صلى واحدة فأوترت ما صلى
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made the end of the witr the rising of the dawn. But suppose a person delays the witr until the end of the night and does not stand up until the dawn rises, we say he prays the witr in the forenoon as an even number. If it is his custom to make the witr with three, how many does he pray? Four. If he makes the witr with five, he prays six. If he makes the witr with seven, he prays eight. If he makes the witr with nine, he prays ten. If he makes the witr with eleven, he prays twelve. This is based on the saying of 'A'ishah:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when sleep or pain overtook him at night, would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day. كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا غلبه من النوم من الليل نوم أو وجع صلى من النهار ثنتي عشر ركعة
This is what she said (may Allah be pleased with her). Yes.
