Q: Is the taslim to the right after finishing the final tashahhud in prayer sufficient, or is it obligatory to perform the taslim to the right and to the left for both the imam and the one praying alone? Is the prayer valid or invalid in that case? Is this established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as being to the right only, or not? Please reply to us, my master, urgently so that the ummah may benefit from it. May Allah keep you in His protection and care, and may you remain well, and peace be upon you?
A : The guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the taslim from prayer is to say the taslim to his right (peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy) and to his left likewise. This is his regular practice. It is established from Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 5:470 and in another wording: . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
