What is the ruling on one who closes the prayer with a single taslim?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Closing the prayer with a single taslim?

The Shaykh : What is meant by restricting oneself to a single taslim? Some scholars hold that it is permissible in voluntary prayers only, while others hold that it is permissible in both obligatory and voluntary prayers.
The correct view is that it is not permissible to restrict oneself to a single taslim, neither in the obligatory prayer nor in the voluntary prayer, and that it is obligatory to say the taslim twice. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say the taslim twice from the prayer and said:
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayers صلوا كما رأيتموني أصلي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
The fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was consistent in saying the two taslimes indicates that they are both necessary. This is the well-known position among the scholars of the Hanbali school (may Allah have mercy on them).
