Fatwa No. ( 19481 )
Q: Is it permissible to say the closing salam only once in the prayer or not? In my village, some of us say the salam to the right and do not say it to the left, claiming that Satan is on the left? And what is the ruling on the salam in the prayer ?
A : The Sunnah indicates that the one praying says the salam from the prayer to his right and his left; this is what is preserved from the actions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the prayers;
as the five [Imams] narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan an-Nasa'i 1324Sahih (Darussalam) and this hadith was authenticated by al-Tirmidhi , and as 'Amir ibn Sa'd narrated from his father, saying: Mishkat al-Masabih 943 It was narrated by Ahmad and Muslim and al-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah , and al-Shawkani said: (This is the truth due to the abundance of hadiths regarding the two salams, the authenticity of some of them, the goodness of some of them, and their containing additional details, and their being established, unlike the hadiths regarding the single salam, which are few and weak and do not stand as evidence; even if they did stand, they would not be suitable to contradict the hadiths of the two salams). End of quote. And Ibn 'Abd al-Barr clarified the weakness of the evidence of those who said that one salam is sufficient. As for the claim that some of the praying people do not say the salam to the left on the pretext that Satan is on the left - this is a false statement, and it has no basis in the Book of Allah or the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The salam in the prayer is obligatory, and the prayer is not complete without it; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Abi Dawud 61Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani) It was narrated by the five except al-Nasa'i , and al-Tirmidhi said: This is the most authentic and best thing in this chapter. And due to the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), which includes: Sunan Abi Dawud 783Sahih (Al-Albani) It was narrated by Muslim in (his Sahih) and Ahmad in (his Musnad) and Abu Dawud in (his Sunan).
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

كنت أرى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يسلم عن يمينه وعن يساره حتى يرى بياض خدهThe key to prayer is purification; its beginning is takbir and its end is taslim.
مفتاح الصلاة الطهور وتحريمها التكبير وتحليلها التسليمHe used to finish prayer with uttering the salutation.
وكان يختم الصلاة بالتسليمAnd success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
