A man attended the prayer and did not find anyone to be with him in the second row

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The tenth question of the fatwa number ( 18612 )
Q10: A man attended the prayer and did not find anyone to be with him in the second row. Should he pull a worshipper from the first row, or should he pray alone? This is the case when the courtyard of the mosque and the open area are filled with worshippers. Is it permissible to pray in front of the imam?
A10: First: If the worshipper finds the row complete, he should wait until someone comes to stand opposite him, and he should not pull anyone from the row. If he is able to enter the row or pray to the right of the imam, he should do so. Second: The Sunnah is for the followers to stand behind the imam, or to his right and left if there is a need for that. If they stand in front of him, their prayer is not valid; because of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The Imam is to be followedإنما جعل الإمام ليؤتم به
Sahih al-Bukhari 1236
, and because what is transmitted from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding his leading the prayer is that he was in front and the followers were behind him. And he said (peace and blessings be upon him):
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayersصلوا كما رأيتموني أصلي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
