Q: Regarding what the two Shaykhs narrated, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When the Imam says Amin, say Amin, for if anyone’s utterance of Amin synchronnises with that of the angles, he will be forgiven his past sins.إذا أمن الإمام فأمنوا لم فإنه من وافق تأمينه تأمين الملائكة غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه
Sunan Abi Dawud 936Sahih (Al-Albani)
If the imam does not say "Ameen" but the worshippers do, do they receive the reward that Allah forgives them for their previous sins? Is the condition in this hadith that the imam says "Ameen"?

A: Saying "Ameen" is a recommended practice after the imam's recitation of "and not the astray,"
for the imam, the followers, and the one praying alone alike. When the imam finishes reciting Surat al-Fatihah, the imam says "Ameen" and the followers say "Ameen." If the imam does not say "Ameen," it is prescribed for the followers to say it; for it is established from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When the reciter says Amin, then say Amin, for if a person’s Amin coincides with the Amin of the angels, his previous sins will be forgiven.إذا أمن الإمام فأمنوا فإن من وافق تأمينه تأمين الملائكة غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه
Sunan Ibn Majah 852Sahih (Darussalam)
And in a sound narration:
When the imam says "and not the astray," then say "Ameen"إذا قال الإمام ولا الضالين فقولوا: آمين
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 5:69
the hadith. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
