Q: What is the ruling regarding an imam who prays the Fajr prayer with the short surahs ? Is his prayer permissible or invalid, given that he is not a regular imam, and is
he sinful for doing so?
A: It is the Sunnah for the imam to recite from the long surahs of the final section of the Qur'an after al-Fatihah in the Fajr prayer, but if he recites from the short surahs, that is permissible and the prayer is valid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
